Prologue

Darien had lived with Anjirra for 3 months. They had lots of close time together, and they spent every day together. He was happy, he loved someone who loved him back. Darien now had another home. He could even sleep at nights now. Der learned that Anjirra is a healer. And that was good. She even tried to heal his burnt scars, made by the Ring of Fire Elemental, but with little success. And of course Raymond was not forgotten too. Their pet Clannfear also had nice times living here.

Also, Darien did tell her everything he knew about Ka, House Ordos, because it was where his friends were and were he lived before. And Darien trusted her, so he didn’t need to fear about information leek. It was strange that all these 3 months Darien did not receive any tasks from Ka. But he did not complain. Until one day, while having breakfast he heard crashing a crashing noise, then a knock on their door.

“I’ll get it!” Darien said as he got up from the table and went to the door. “Who is it?”

“Glond. Manes Glond. Have you forgotten me?” the redguard asked.

“Of course not. What do you want?” Darien asked as he opened the door wide open.

“Come outside, we need to talk,” Manes said as Darien came out and closed the door. “There is some serious stuff happening, and you have a new assignment. It is quite serious; so the Grandmasters aren’t sending you a note. Instead, go back to Imperial City, Marcus Maracus shall explain your mission in detail. And this has time limit. You don’t have much left, so better get packing and say goodbye to your girlfriend.”

Darien felt sad. He didn’t want to leave Anjirra, but he knew he couldn’t take her with him. “Ok,” Darien sadly said, “I’ll pack and leave in an hour or so…”

“Good. Here’s some drakes for you,” the messenger handed a bag of money. “Your welcome and good luck. You’ll gonna need it.”

“Thanks…” Darien muttered under his nose and got back inside.

“What was it?” Anjirra asked, but when she saw Darien sad, she got worried. “is everything ok?”

“No… I… I have to go…” Darien sat down. “An assignment by Ka.”

“When will Darien be back?”

“I don’t know… he said it is serious, so I am not sure. And I have to leave now…”Darien sadly said and hugged Anjirra.

Anjirra helped Darien to pack. And soon Darien was packed, ready to leave. He stood at the door.

“Darien will promise Anjirra that Darien will be back?” Anjirra asked.

“I promise you, I will return. I love you…” Darien said as he kissed her. Moments later he left for Imperial city with sadness in his eyes.

Chapter One – The Prophecy Within

Darien was saddened. He did enjoy working for Ka, fighting and risking his life in a way, but he didn’t want to leave behind the ones he loved, the ones who were important to him, but he had to, and it was just a matter of time when he will be able to return. But little did Darien knew how long the time will take… No one did, well… Almost no one…

He marched to Imperial City in a quick pace, he had to hurry. He approached the door of Marcus Maracus and at the moment he wanted to knock, the butler opened the door: “Sir Maracus is waiting form you.” The butler pointed at the large window, which was in the living room. Marcus stood there reading something, a note, a note on quite familiar paper, a note from the Grandmasters.

“Oh, you finally are here Darien… Yes… Good…” Marcus mumbled when he heard the butler.

“Yeah, Hello. I have something important to do, no?” Darien immediately got to the point.

“Indeed. Two things. First about your mission. Varus Vantinius, the Knight of Imperial Dragon, was given an army to eliminate the Ashlanders from Vvardenfell so the Imperial power over Morrowind is complete. The first army that was sent there destroyed one of the northern Ashlander camps, the Urshilaku. But the other camps in Grazelands united and destroyed the small Imperial force. Now a larger force is en rout to Vvardenfell,” Marcus explained. “Your task is to meet Shadow Venim, the leader of the resistance. He is forming a meeting in a tavern in Vos, a city in northeast parts of Vvardenfell. Here is a note that he has sent to all factions, guilds and cominties on Vvardenfell. Our spies managed to get one too.” Marcus handed Darien a note.

Darien didn’t answer, he just silently listened and now opened the note.

Trebonius, The Archmage of the Mages Guild

I am Shadow, Ashkhan of Zainab, and Leader of the Ashlander resistance. I am writing this to inform you that the empire has started an extermination of the natives, so they can claim our land. We are holding them off, but fear that a greater force is coming in the next month. I give you this plea to help remove the presence of this power hungry empire so we may become once more an independent country. If you agree to help, meet at Vos for a meeting to discuss this threat.

Shadow, Ashkhan of Zainab, Leader of Resistance

“So I have to join with the rebels and help them defeat the Imperial forces? That’s all?” Darien curiously asked, he never has been into big battles and big wars. Now was his chance.

“Yes, also, if needed, you can inform the leader of the resistance about us, the Cult Ka,” Marcus added.

“And what’s the second thing?” Darien asked.

“Well, it is quite interesting. Do you know of the Soulkeeper Prophecy?” Marcus intrigued asked.

“Yeah… Have read about it. And felt that there is something wrong with it… is it?”

“Not quite… The Grandmasters have light suspicion that you might be the Soulkeeper…” Marcus explained more.

Darien was a bit shocked: “What?!?”

“Yes, but they still think there is only a low chance that you might be the Soulkeeper, but the Grandmasters want to be sure that they don’t miss the chance…” Marcus said with hope. “Not far from Vos there is a wizard,” Marcus turned to look out the window. “He lives in a tower named Tel Fyr. After you have had a little chitchat with Shadow Venim, visit Mr. Fyr and ask him about the prophecy, he us old and wise and might know something…”

“Alright… Things just get better and better… First a red fleshy creature steals my kills… Then the most informed persons I know think I might have the power to create living dead…” Darien said with sarcasm.

“What did you say?” Marcus interrupted and looked at Darien.

“To create living dead, the prophecy says it…” Darien tried to explain but Marcus interrupted again.

“No, no, not that. About the red fleshy creature?”

“Oh, well, some outlaws in Imperial armour attacked me, I managed to wound one, but then out of nowhere, out from an invisibility spell a creature appeared and killed on of the attackers, then took the form of the one he just killed, he looked exactly the same, face, armour, even dirt spots on the weapons… And then he killed the rest… Changing forms again… And then he was gone…” Darien tried to remember details.

“And the Soulkeeper shalt rest all battles until the grand battle takes place...” Marcus said some lines of the Prophecy. “Where did you see him?”

“Him? More of an ‘it’…” Darien smiled. “On the road, which leads to Skingrad if I remember correctly.”

“Right, I’ll send a message to the Grandmasters. But don’t take too much hopes, I really doubt you are the one…” Marcus smiled. “You don’t even practice necromancy…”

“Yeah… And I do not want some souls lurking into me neither…” Darien sighed.

“Don’t worry, there aren’t many prophecies that are true… most of them we make to be true. And we can’t make this one to be true…” Marcus explained. “But don’t worry, everything’s gonna be fine. But since you don’t have much time, you should be going. There’s a trader ship in the harbour. It will take you Seyda Neen, from there find your way to Vos.”

“Alright,” Darien said. He still felt a bit sad, because he already missed Anjirra. He quickly paced to the harbour and found the ship. “Is this the ‘Sailing Minnie’?”

“Aye…” and old captain answered. He was Imperial, with grey, long beard and many scars all over his body, his clothing was tattered. Well, at least the ship suited the captain too. Its sails had holes in them, and the wood the ship was made of seemed very old and very fragile.

Darien sighed, but he still thought more about Anjirra, he slowly got on board. “When do we head out?”

“Now…” the captain whispered and the ship started moving.

Darien looked around in a surprise. There was no crew. No one did lower the sales, nor do any other maintenance stuff. The ship just started moving. “Magicka?” Darien asked.

“Indeed, Darien… It is…” the captain whispered. “Open you eyes…”

“What?” Darien asked.

“Open your eyes…” the captain said again.

“Why, they already are open…” once again Darien was confused.

“Just for once, Darien, don’t ask, just do it…”

Darien closed his eyes, the opened and… and saw the ship being a mighty scout cruiser, with sails of the most expensive and white silk, the ship was made of the most durable wood, and was painted in silver colour. The curves and lines of the ship were made by the most skilled crafters. The ship looked magnificent. There was a lot of exquisite food on the table in the middle of the vessel. And the captain was now very well dressed man, with very clean skin, in white shirt and white pants that shined with silver and diamond buttons. Darien was amazed. The captain pointed to a seat at the table, and Darien got there.

“Enjoy your meal,” the captain kindly said.

“Tanks, you too…” Darien nodded.

The trip was quite uneventful, the captain didn’t talk much and Darien wallowed in his thoughts about Anjirra.

When they were near Seyda Neen the captain asked Darien to close his eyes. Darien closed them, and the second he opened them again the ship again was an old tattered shoe. Maybe even that statement was too prising.

“Here we are… Good luck with your task…” the captain whispered in and old sick voice.

“Thanks, I’ll need it,” Darien answered and got off the ship. The view of Seyda Neen was now in front of him. He slowly walked around the small town and approached a guard. “Could you please tell me the way to Vos?”

“Take a silt strider to Balmora… Then… I am new here, better ask Arrille, in his trade house over there…” the guard politely answered and pointed to Arrilles Tradehouse.

“Thank you,” Darin politely answered and slowly stepped up the old and mossy steps. He opened the door and a small bell rung, which the door had activated. Behind the counter a high elf sat on a chair and read a book.

“Ah, a customer. Welcome friend. What can I do for you?” everyone in this town thus far seemed quite polite. Darien started to like here.

“Hello. I need some directions…” Darien replied.

“Where are you heading, fine traveller?” Arrille asked.

“To Vos,” Darien simply answered.

“Ah, well, take the silt strider to Balmora, then use the guild guide there to take you to Sadrith Mora, then take a ship from there to Vos. And there is another way but will atke more time. With silt strider to Vivec, then a boat to Vos, but guild guides are much faster then boats and Sadrith Mora isn’t far from Vos. So I suggest the first rout.” Arrille explained.

“Thankyou…” Darien thanked and when he opened the door Arrille spoke again.

“But it’s not very safe over there, there are some rebels and an Imprial army is coming to crush them, so it isn’t very safe.”

“That’s what I’m looking for…” Darien nodded with a smile and left.

He walked through the swampy town, over the wooden bridge and up to the silt strider port. “Why walk, when you can ride…” the dunmer lady greeted Darien.

“Fast one to Balmora please…” Darien asked.

“Alright…” the dunmer answered and asked some money.

After some time, Darien was at Balmora, a beautiful city. You could see the architecture of town very well from the silt strider port. Darien looked at the grim and brown/dark grey architecture. It was nice, and it even had a nice river. The guards here were different, all wearing yellow, bonemold armour. It was getting dark, so the streets were not so crowded and the guards were carrying torches.

“Excuse me, could you please direct me to the local mages guild?” Darien asked the dunmer on top of the silt strider port.

“There…” the dunmer pointed, “See those two buildings? It’s the Mages guild and Fighters guild.”

Darien nodded a ‘thank you’ and stepped down the many steps of the silt strider port. In the square, the field in front of some traders and the guilds, some traders stood with sleepy eyes, tired of the long day. Darien just ignored them and went in the mages guild, and, alas, there was a dunmer lady reading a book near the door.

“Want something, outlander?” she carelessly asked.

“Guild guide,” Darien simply said.

“Bottom floor, last room,” the dunmer mage explained.

So Darien walked down, he entered the main room of the mages guild. There was reading part to the left, with some low walls around it. There some mages sat and listened what the man in front read to them. To the right there sat an orc, with a cranky face and read some book. Then there were beds, and two tables. Some mages sat at the tables and had dinner. Darien ignored every of them, even some of them gave a disapproving glare. He entered the last room, but there was a khajiit sitting behind a table.

“What can Ajira do for you?” the khajiit purred.

“Are you the Guild Guide?” Darien asked.

“No, Ajira is not the guild guide, but Ajira can find one!” she got off the atble and went in the main room. “Masalinie!!! Khajiit wants a Guild Guide!”

“Just a minute!!” the guild guide answered.

“Why does khajiit look sad?” Ajira asked Darien.

“Khajiit had to leave Anjirra home…” Darien said with a fake khajiit accent.

“Oh… Khajiit shouldn’t worry, Ajira is sure that khajiit shall go soon back to Anjirra,” Ajira said optimistically and got back to her work.
“Probably…” Darien whispered.

“Where to?” the imperial Guild Guide entered the small room.

“Sadrith Mora,” as soon as Darien had finished his sentence, the next thing he knew was that he is now at Sadrith Mora. The Guild Guide didn’t take her time, she had to get back to her dinner.

He was in a room full with people now. Darien didn’t like crowded places, so he got to the door as fast as he can, he opened the next door and he was outside. He quickly jumped off the wall and run to the harbour, because he had to get to Vos by the morning.

“Where to?” a dunmer ship captain asked.

“Vos,” Darien said as he put some gold in the captains palm. Half an hour or so later, he was arrived at Vos.
